A Future That Will Never Come
By Lyla Sommersby

Suspended here
suspended between stars
with nothing
but the shards of a ship
to grasp
to hold on to

I raise one hand
for you
for all that we had
for all that we've lost
for all the memories
we'll never get to share
together
in a future
that will never come.

I raise one hand
I swallow my last tear
swallow my last whisper
my last breath
and float
just float

thinking only of you
thinking only of you.
